MWA is incorporated with the State of Michigan and the USA Federal Government.

Article II of the Articles of Incorporation so states our purposes:

  1. Lobbying and Legislation. Propose new and/or amended legislation (hereafter, "legislation" means statutes, funding, governmental policies, rules and regulations) needed to prevent misuse, exploitation or degradation of the inland waters of the state of Michigan: and,
  1. Actively participate in the legislative processes which impact the inland waters of the state of Michigan: and
  2. Define and promote legislation that set objective and measurable criteria for management of the inland waters of the state of Michigan: and
  3. Promote riparian participation in the legislative processes, as it relates to the inland waters of the state of Michigan: and
  4. Encourage riparians to assist local units of government with zoning ordinances and with statutory policy power ordinances that impact the inland waters of the state of Michigan.
  1. Court Cases/Litigation. To preserve and enhance the riparian rights doctrine of Michigan by actively participating in such litigious activities as are deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors of this corporation: and
    1. Encourage the enforcement of legislation, as determined by the Board of Directors of this corporation, to be most important to riparians property owners: and
    2. Contribute amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs as determined appropriate by the Board of Directors of this corporation.

(c) Agency and Departmental  Promulgated and Administrative Procedures. Promote the involvement of riparians on/with boards, committees, hearing panels, and any other agency or departmental bodies that create and/or influence the promulgation of the post-legislative rules and procedures.
